One Person Dead After Crash Involving State Trooper On I-55 In Bolingbrook
CHICAGO (CBS) -- A 33-year-old woman is dead after an early morning rollover crash on the Stevenson Expressway near Weber Road, in southwest suburban Bolingbrook.
Illinois State Police say around 1:55 a.m. a Fiat was heading south through a construction zone near Weber Road when the driver lost control, and the car rolled over.
The car turned across the two left lanes that were shut down for construction, onto the left shoulder, where it collided with a parked Illinois State Police cruiser.
The driver, Danielle Nino, of Crest Hill, was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. The trooper who was sitting in the squad car suffered minor injuries in the crash.
Online records show a woman with the same name and age as the driver had at least 19 traffic-related violations dating back to 2002.
Nino's license, state officials comfirmed, had been suspended between 2009 and 2011, but was valid at the time of the crash. Her most recent violations happened last year for speeding and disregarding a stop sign.
All southbound lanes on Interstate 55 were shut down for several hours after the crash, but reopened by 7 a.m., although major delays continued.
The cause of the crash was under investigation.
