Carbon Monoxide Poisoning Kills Elderly Couple

(STMW) -- An elderly couple were found dead Saturday in the South Shore neighborhood, possibly from carbon monoxide poisoning, police said.

Police responded to a well-being check about 6:30 p.m. Saturday in the 6700 block of South Dorchester, police said. Family members became concerned after the couple did not show up to a Thanksgiving Day dinner on Thursday, police said.

When police arrived at the home, they saw an elderly man unresponsive through the front window of the residence, police said. Forced entry was made and the man was found unresponsive in the living room. The woman was found in a second floor bedroom also unresponsive, police said.

Clemmie Jones, 76, and Nancy Jones, 77, were both pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office. The examiner's office ruled the cause of death was carbon monoxide intoxication.
