Offensive Line Left Out To Dry?

It seems with everyday, there is a new issue regarding the Bears that makes the fans lose faith that the playoffs are in the future for this year. The offensive line has taken a great deal of this criticism for their lack of protection and non-existent running game. However, CSN Chicago's John "Moon" Mullin feels as if they could be getting more help from their quarterback and offensive coordinator.

"The offensive line shouldn't be the punchline every week," Mullin said on the Danny Mac Show. "[Jay Cutler] has done nothing to help his offensive; and even worse, [Mike Martz], by some of the play calling, has hurt the [offensive line]."

While the offensive line isn't without blame, it's important to look at what Cutler has done when he hasn't been sacked. According to Mullin, even when Cutler hasn't been sacked, the results aren't always pretty.

"All the excuses can be made about pressure and how this young offensive line, or this new offensive line didn't protect. There's a speed bump in that logic, always to me," Mullin said. "And that is the one game in which he was not sacked, since he's been a Bear, was the San Francisco game. He threw [five] picks in that game."

While sacks aren't always a direct correlation to the level of protection, it's obvious that the coaching staff could be doing more to help out the inexperienced offensive line.
