Data Breach At Northwestern Medicine Affects 56,000 Patients, Donors

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A major data breach at Northwestern Memorial Hospital may have exposed tens of thousands of patients and donors.

The healthcare center has notified 56,000 people that their personal records were accessed early this year.

The hospital reported the breach to the United States Department of Health and Human Services.

Northwestern Memorial said the incident was not targeted at the health system and did not involve access to its electronic medical systems.
