No Bail For Friend Charged With Killing Former CPS Hoops Star
CHICAGO (CBS) -- A 20-year-old man, who prosecutors and witnesess described as a longtime friend of former Chicago Public Schools basketball star Michael Haynes, was ordered held without bond Thursday, after being charged with Haynes' murder.
WBBM Newsradio's Bernie Tafoya reports, Cinque Lee, of the 11600 block of South Vincennes Avenue, is charged with first-degree murder in Haynes' death. A judge denied him bail at a hearing Thursday afternoon.
At the bond hearing, prosecutors said Lee, Haynes and several other men who were arguing over a stolen necklace on July 26 were longtime friends. During the argument, Lee allegedly offered one of those friends a gun.

According to prosecutors, later that evening, Haynes told Lee it was wrong to take out a gun, since all those involved in the argument were friends. Haynes ended up punching Lee, who shot him several times in retaliation.
Police said Lee was arrested Tuesday by the Fugitive Apprehension Team at 81st Street and Loomis Boulevard.
Haynes had been preparing to head to college at Iona College in New York, which would have fulfilled his dream of playing basketball for a Division I college.
His basketball career involved a number of destinations. As a freshman in high school, he averaged 20 points and 10 rebounds at Corliss High School. Sophomore year, he teamed with Deandre Liggins at Washington and led the Minutemen to the city championship game at the United Center, where they lost to Simeon and Derrick Rose.
Meantime, Haynes' brother Brian is behind bars, accused of breaking into a Morgan Park neighborhood home and threatening those inside at gunpoint on the night Haynes was killed.
Brian Haynes allegedly threatened to shoot four people in a home in the 11600 block of South Vincennes Avenue about six hours after his brother died.
