New Interim Police Supt. Eddie Johnson Aims To Do 'A Lot Of Listening'
CHICAGO (CBS) -- More shootings this weekend are making it a very busy first week for Interim Superintendent Eddie Johnson.
CBS 2's Brad Edwards caught up with the superintendent Saturday.
In his first week on the job, Chicago's violence was captured first person in a Facebook video.
Interim Superintendent Eddie Johnson likely won't get much of a honeymoon.
"These numbers right now are unacceptable," Johnson said Saturday.
More than 700 have been shot so far this year from January to March, nearly double last year's 411 in the same timeframe.
"Some of the things I will do differently is be more approachable to the community even the young activists out there," Johnson said. "They live in the city so they have a right to have their voices heard so in the coming weeks and months I'll be doing a lot of listening because you never know where you're gonna get that nugget from that will help drive this crime down."

That approachability was on display at a "Cook with a Cop" event Saturday, where he said parents need to be accountable.
"Mothers be mothers, fathers be fathers," he said. "Stop blaming everybody else. Take some ownership of your neighborhoods. Be accountable and make sure your kids are accountable."
Interim Superintendent Johnson was also at a gun turn-in event Saturday, where more than 100 firearms were handed over.
