Motorola Mobility Cutting About 500 Jobs

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Motorola Mobility will cut about 500 employees, including jobs in Chicago, a spokesman said Thursday.

Layoffs began Thursday in Chicago.

Those layoffs will include workers at its Merchandise Mart headquarters, where it moved in 2014.

The Mart will remain Motorola Mobility's headquarters.

The cuts are part of a global reduction in workforce at Motorola Mobility's parent company, Lenovo.

Motorola Mobility employs a total of 2,000.
