You won't be able to just drop in at the Milk Room, an exclusive bar in the recently renovated Chicago Athletic Association. However, you won't have to be a member either. Just be sure to make reservations online ahead of time, because this bar is both popular and quant. While the hotel has a casual, come-as you-are, relaxed atmosphere to its dining room, the bar requires a more business attire dress code. The establishment attracts wealthy patrons who seek rare cocktail mix ingredients and high-end whiskey. Because Milk Bar is small, you are likely to meet and mingle with some of its regular clients.

Don't be surprised if you are connected to someone who answers "The Pump Room" when you call to make a reservation for The Library. The Library is located in the former Ambassador East Hotel, that has since become the Public Hotel. Ian Schrager has made many updates to the hotel, but it still has a sophisticated vibe and is still home to the Pump Room, a great dining option. The Library, a relaxing coffee bar during the day, becomes a sophisticated club at night that features wines, specialty cocktails and beers. Wednesday is jazz night, so you may want to make a reservation to guarantee a table.

Rebar, a lounge on the mezzanine level of the Trump Hotel, is a popular nightspot because of its sophisticated atmosphere, excellent hand-crafted cocktails, prime champagne list and amazing views of the Chicago River. You may want to enjoy the artisanal small plates while you indulge in specialty cocktails. Rebar attracts an upscale crowd, and appropriate dress is business or cocktail attire. Reservations are suggested.

While it seats about 300, the bar is often filled to capacity during the after work happy hour and on weekends. The rooftop has open seating, but you may want to call to discuss reservations, best times to come and how to get a spot on its famed glass overhang. The Roof is located on the 27th floor and offers patrons terrific views of downtown.

The Underground is a stark contrast from a rooftop bar. Located under street level, the club is a short distance north of The Wit at Illinois Street in River North. The atmosphere here is likely to remind you of a secure hideaway. The dress code is relaxed, but don't let that fool you. Stylish here means trendy. This is often where celebrities frequent while performing in town. You may be intrigued by who shows up on any given night. Be sure to check out the online calendar of special events. Reservations are suggested.
