3 injured in condo complex fire in McHenry, Illinois

Three people were injured and a garage was destroyed in a fire at a condo complex on Wednesday morning in northwest suburban McHenry.

McHenry Township Fire Protection District officials said the fire started around 9:45 a.m. in a four-unit condo building in the 4900 block of West Oakwood Drive.

When firefighters arrived, two people were trapped on a second floor balcony. Both were rescued and taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation. A third person who lives in the building was taken to the hospital after suffering an ankle injury while escaping the fire. None of the injuries were considered to be life-threatening.

The fire appeared to have destroyed the attached garage of the condo complex, and at least four vehicles appeared to have been destroyed inside the garage.

Fire officials said all four units of the condo complex were left uninhabitable due to the fire.

The cause of the fire was under investigation.
