Man Dies After Falling Off Golf Cart In McHenry County
A 20-year-old man died Sunday afternoon, after he fell off a golf cart in far north suburban McHenry County.
Police said Stephen Canfield, of Harvard, was riding on the back of a golf cart headed south on Johnson Road, just north of Illinois Route 173 in unincorporated McHenry County near Hebron, when he fell off the cart. Three other men – all 20 or 21 years old – were on the cart at the time, but they were not injured.
The golf cart did not have any seat belts, and no one on board was wearing a helmet.
Canfield was taken to Centegra Woodstock Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Police said alcohol use was suspected as a factor in the accident, but no charges had been filed as of Monday morning.
McHenry County Sheriff's police were investigating.
