Man Dead After Ejected From SUV On I-57

CHICAGO (STMW) -- A man was killed after he was ejected from an SUV on Interstate 57 on the South Side early Saturday, police said.

About 1:30 a.m., the 29-year-old driving a 2000 Ford Explorer lost control while heading northbound "at a high rate of speed" on I-57 near 99th Street, Illinois State Police said.

The driver, who was the only person inside, veered right, causing the SUV to hit the right side guard rail and roll over, police said. He was not wearing a seat belt and was thrown from the driver's seat, police said.

The man was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he was pronounced dead at 2:20 a.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office. His name was not released Saturday morning.

At least part of northbound I-57 near 99th Street was closed while police investigated the crash, but lanes were reopened at 4:50 a.m., police said.
