Love Of Country, Love Of Cubs: Vet Dies Day Before Game 7

CHICAGO (CBS) -- CBS 2's Brad Edwards first met World War II veteran and avid Cubs fan William B. Madden in 2015 at the NLCS.

Mr. Madden was shot twice and buried once as a 19-year-old on the first wave of Iwo Jima.

The Cubs didn't make it to the World Series in 2015, but this year, Madden had planned to go to Game 3 on Friday at Wrigley Field.

Then, he was hospitalized and couldn't go.

Mr. Madden died Tuesday, a day before Game 7 between the Cubs and Indians.
