Illinois Lawmaker Wants State To Commemorate Juneteenth
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Some state lawmakers and advocates want Illinois to lead the nation in condemning racism.
Illinois State Representative LaShawn Ford (D-8th) is asking Governor Pritzker to lower state flags on June 19, also known as Juneteenth.
Ford said it's one way to remember those who have lost their lives to hatred and brutality. Juneteenth is a widely recognized commemoration marking the end of slavery in America.
This Friday marks the 155th anniversary.
