Hiring Picture Is Looking Better

The latest Manpower employment survey finds that for the first quarter of next year, 14 percent of Chicago-area employers plan to increase staff, up from just 8 percent a year earlier.
10 percent plan to cut workers. While that's bad news if you're among those getting pink-slipped, the figure is down from 16 percent the same time last year.
The Manpower survey finds 72 percent of employers say they'll maintain current staff levels.
So while it hardly signals robust job growth, at least the survey shows that the labor market is stabilizing and that perhaps, the worst of the jobs crisis is behind us.
