Harry Caray Statue Accidentally Damaged
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Holy Cow! It was a tough season for the Cubs, and it appears that 2010 is proving to be equally as hard for Harry Caray -- or, at least, the statue of the late Hall of Fame broadcaster.
Harry's statue, which now stands outside the entrance to the Wrigley Field bleachers, needs a new base.

The decision to relocate the statue earlier this year to the bleachers entrance at Sheffield and Waveland Avenues, from the corner of Addison and Sheffield, didn't sit well with some fans, even though Harry's statue made way for that of another Cubs immortal, Billy Williams. Even Harry's widow, Dutchie Caray, didn't accept it easily.
And now, said the Cubs' Jason Carr, the base of the statue has been damaged during preparations for the Nov. 20 Illinois-Northwestern football game.
"One of our field vehicles, basically a golf cart, clipped the base of the statue," he said.
The base sports a Y-shaped crack that runs diagonally from the lower left corner of the base to the upper right corner, through the inscription.
It may be difficult to believe that something so small could inflict that much damage, but we're talking about the Cubs.
"Boy, oh boy," as Harry would have said.
Carr said that the statue, dedicated in April 1999, is not in danger of falling and will remain in place until the repairs are made.
While he did not have a timetable for the installation of the new base, he said he expected that by Opening Day it should look the same as it did before the accident.
