Girl, 9, Battling Cancer Gets To Be Honorary Bat Kid At Cubs Game

CHICAGO (CBS) --It may not have been a winning day for the Cubs on Sunday, but as CBS 2's Brad Edwards reports it was a "grand-slam day" at Wrigley Field for one tough little girl from Joliet.

On a sun-slathered day at the friendliest place on earth, there was an angel in the infield.

Mya Tinajero is a huge Cubs fan because, "My favorite colors are red and blue because my dad likes the Cubs a lot."

She's battling cancer.

"She's a high risk, stage four," said her mother, Misti Tinajero.

"The doctor says that I'm doing better now," Mya said.

She's nine years old, four years fine and the last five, she has fought for every day.

"Her last treatment was on Friday," Misti Tinajero said. "It's days like this that make it much easier to bear those bad days."

It's about getting her ball signed, chit chatting with the coach, but Mya says she's looking forward to "seeing them win today" the most.

Her mom says Sunday afternoon will go down as one of "the best days of her life."

Today was perfect. Tomorrow is another round of chemo at Advocate Children's Hospital.
