Gary Man, 18, Charged In Two Alley Murders

(STMW) -- An 18-year-old man has been charged with fatally shooting two people, found dead in separate alleys Saturday in northwest Indiana.

Harrington James Westbrook faces two counts of murder, according to Gary police.

About 7 a.m., officers found a 32-year-old woman shot to death in an alley in the 800 block of Ohio Street in Gary. Eight hours later, a 37-year-old man was found dead with a gunshot wound and blunt force trauma in an alley in the 2000 block of West 2nd Avenue, according to police and the Lake County coroner's office.

Both deaths were ruled homicides. Authorities have not released the victims' names, but said both were Gary residents.

Westbrook, a Gary resident, was arrested Saturday evening. Police announced charges Monday afternoon, but have not released information about a motive for the attacks. Detectives are still investigating.
