Firefighters Battle Blaze At Love's Travel Stop, Denny's Restaurant In Gary, Indiana
GARY, Ind. (CBS) -- After six hours, firefighters were able to extinguish a large fire at a Love's Travel Stop in Gary, Indiana Thursday.
The fire started around 10:40 a.m. at the Love's truck stop that houses a Denny's restaurant that caught fire.
Heavy flames and smoke were seen pouring through the roof of the building as CBS 2 Shardaa Gray reports, the biggest concerns were the fuel pumps outside.
A worker at a Midas across the street saw everything unfold.
"When I seen that flame shooting up it look like it was coming out of a chimney. Then five minutes later we just seen nothing but smoke going everywhere. Real dark smoke and it was just spreading," said Louis Brown.
That worker also says he saw people coming out the side and front door. His main concern was to keep workers and customers safe.
He says this is a popular destination spot for people to not only grab a bite to eat but get gas as well.
It's still unclear where and how the fire started.
