Gabriel: Harris Release No Shock

(WSCR) The release of Chris Harris from the Bears wasn't exactly a shock to one NFL insider.

Greg Gabriel of The National Football Post said the signs were there -- it was just a matter of time.

"They're not going to bring in five or six safeties (Wednesday) and work them out to just look at them," Gabriel told The Mully and Hanley Show on Thursday. "Obviously, there were intentions to make the move. Chris has been unhappy – he didn't like losing his starting job. … The bottom line is he just doesn't have the speed that he had when he came out. That hurts his game."

Harris had a tumultuous season with the Bears -- missing games because of injury, losing his starting job due to poor performance and ultimately being rendered inactive for a game.

"He hasn't played good football this year," Gabriel said. "Chris is good in the locker room, well-like by his teammates. He's a leader, but the bottom line is you gotta have production and he hasn't produced."
