Fleet Feet Store A Total Loss After Last Week's Fire In Old Town
CHICAGO (CBS) -- A popular running store in Old Town has been having a tough time returning to normal, after it was damaged in the same fire that has shut down The Second City for at least two more weeks.
The flagship Fleet Feet Sports store in Piper's Alley suffered a total loss in the extra-alarm blaze that started in the kitchen at Adobo Grill restaurant, and destroyed the offices for The Second City.
On Friday, workers at Fleet Feet were hauling out racks of running clothes and accessories damaged by either water or smoke.
"If you look along the baseboards you can see all the baseboards where the water damage was," owner Dave Zimmer said. "Everything is lost. Every single piece is lost. It was just a massive amount of water coming into the space, and a massive amount of smoke coming into the space."
Zimmer estimated the store sustained damages in the seven figures. The store was insured, and while it's closed, he's been able to find jobs for full-time staff at other Fleet Feet locations. He vowed to reopen the Old Town store this fall.

The chain's other stores are in Lakeview, Lincoln Square, the South Loop, and Oak Park.
As for The Second City, its stages were mostly undamaged, but it is taking longer than expected to clean up and make repairs to other public areas damaged by smoke and water last week. The latest word from the comedy troupe is that virtually all shows have been cancelled until Sept. 20, with the exception of a handful of performances that have been moved to other locations.
