The plan is to file before Thanksgiving, says elections attorney Burt Odelson. Either Tuesday or Wednesday, he says, he will file a challenge to Rahm Emanuel's residency with the Chicago Board of Elections.
"That the residency requirements for mayor of the city of Chicago is one year from the date of the election, and that Mr. Emanuel does not have the requirements as set forth in the Illinois statutes," said Odelson.
Odelson says he is filing on behalf of two or three registered voters. He says he hopes to get a hearing within a couple of weeks - and no matter who wins the first round, he says, he expects it to go to the state court system - and perhaps ultimately to the state Supreme Court.
Odelson says he's representing Reverend James Meeks in filing his petitions but that Meeks is not part of the challenge to Emanuel.
