Chicago police shoot man accused of shooting woman on South Side

Chicago police shot a man they said shot a woman inside a home on Friday night in the East Chatham neighborhood.

Chicago police responded to a call for a domestic disturbance involving a man armed with a gun and a knife in the 7900 block of South Ingleside just before 8 p.m.

Police said the armed man attempted to run and fired shots at the officers. Police said two officers fired back, hitting the armed man. 

The man was taken to the University of Chicago Hospital, where he is listed in serious condition and remains in custody. 

Before the officers arrived, Chicago police said the armed man shot a 23-year-old woman inside the home. She was taken to the University of Chicago Hospital and is listed in good condition.  

Both officers involved were taken to a local hospital for observation. 

Police said a gun was recovered from the scene.  

The Civilian Office of Police Accountability is investigating. The officers involved will be placed on routine administrative duties for a minimum period of 30 days.
