Driver Of Out Of Control Car Dies After Dan Ryan Crash

CHICAGO (STMW) - A 40-year-old south suburban man was killed after the car he was driving went out of control on the Dan Ryan Expressway early Saturday, causing a three-vehicle crash that left some lanes of the expressway closed for three hours.

The crash, which happened about midnight, occurred at 67th Street on the northbound Dan Ryan, according to Illinois State Police District Chicago Trooper Mark Hall.

The vehicle that caused the crash was heading northbound on the expressway approaching 67th Street where the local and express lanes split, Hall said. The vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed when it veered to the left and hit the retaining wall, Hall said. The vehicle was riding the retaining wall for awhile, then came back onto the roadway to the right, where, heading out of control, it struck a pickup truck.

The out of control vehicle then struck another vehicle, Hall said. The drivers of the two vehicles that were hit were OK and did not have to be taken to hospitals, but the driver of the first vehicle was ejected and was taken in critical condition to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County, Hall said.

That man, identified as Maurice Wesley, 40, of the 100 block of Forest Blvd. in Park Forest, was pronounced dead at 1:23 a.m. at Stroger Hospital, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.

Traffic on the Dan Ryan in the area of the crash was rerouted for at least three hours early Saturday.
