Cops: Man Held Family At Gunpoint
ST. CHARLES, Ill. (STMW) -- A 53-year-old northwest suburban man is being held on $500,000 bond after allegedly holding his family at gunpoint on Saturday before surrendering to police.
Just after midnight on Saturday, Kane County Sheriff's deputies were called to an unincorporated area near Gilberts to a report of a man threatening his family with a gun.
While en route, deputies were informed that the subject was still inside the residence with the gun but his family was able to get out of the residence, according to a release from the sheriff's office.
The woman, who according to the order "had extreme pain in her arm," called her brother and asked him to pick her up and take her to the hospital. After the call, Hagen allegedly struck the woman in the head with a semi-automatic pistol, leaving her unconscious.
She reported waking up to find Hagen pointing the gun at her, and he allegedly told her he was planning to kill one of the woman's family members and himself, the order said. Hagen also pointed the gun at one of the woman's adult sons, who had arrived at the residence with the woman's brother.
Deputies, assisted by police officers from Huntley, Pingree Grove and Hampshire, set up a perimeter around the property and shut down Big Timber Road between Powers and Manning roads.
About 45 minutes after the initial call, deputies made contact with Hagen and convinced him to come out. He exited the residence and was taken into custody without incident, the release said. One handgun, five rifles and several hundred rounds of ammunition were found in the home.
Hagen's wife was taken to St. Joseph's Hospital in Elgin and treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
Hagen was charged with one felony count of unlawful restraint, two felony counts of aggravated domestic battery, three misdemeanor counts of aggravated assault and two misdemeanor counts of domestic battery, the release said.
Hagen appeared in bond court Saturday and was ordered to turn over any other firearms as a condition of posting bond. A preliminary hearing was also set for April 21 in St. Charles.
