Classic Oreo Cookie Morphs Into A Churro

By John Dodge

CHICAGO (CBS) -- The classic Oreo continues to evolve from its humble beginnings as a simple cream-filled sandwich cookie treat.

The latest iteration: The cookie is morphing into a "churro"--the doughy treat that looks like a deep-fried piece of steel cable.

The Oreo in recent years has been offered in an increasing number of flavors.

Now, it doesn't even look like a cookie.

J & J Snack Foods, one of the leading makers of churros, has reached an agreement with the Deerfield-based owner of Oreos, Mondelez International, to make the new treat.

With a crispy exterior, warm soft interior and real Oreo cookie pieces in every bite, new Oreo churros have a "just-baked" Oreo cookie taste, the companies said.

According to Mondelez, Oreo has more than $2 billion in global annual net revenues.
