(CBS) -- The Dallas ambush is already having an impact on police departments across the nation, including here in Chicago.
In the light of what Chicago police call the "unspeakable police assassinations in Dallas," officers here are being paired with partners to increase visibility and safety.
CBS 2 saw two officers Friday afternoon near 35th and Michigan in a marked SUV, apparently following the directive to double up.
Chicago Fraternal Order of Police President Dean Angelo says no stop for an officer is ever routine.
"You don't know where that individual behind the wheel just came from or what their history is, or what they have in their possession. So you have to be cognizant that everything is a heightened level of risk right now."
Also Friday, Chicago police officers were asked to wear mourning bands on their stars to show support for Dallas officers.
