Chicago Passes 1,000 Shooting Victims For 2016
CHICAGO (CBS) -- A chilling new statistic is out today on gun violence in Chicago.
Police say the city has surpassed its 1,000th shooting of the year.
The Tribune says the victim was a 16-year-old boy, wounded yesterday near 131st and Champlain on the far south side.
During a 14-hour stretch yesterday, 13 people were shot.
Police say homicides in Chicago are up 64 percent this year over last.
As of last Sunday, 161 people had been murdered.
