Chicago Buildings To Go Dark Tuesday Night In Honor Of National COVID-19 Memorial
CHICAGO (CBS)-- Chicago's buildings will go dark Tuesday night in participation of the National COVID-19 Memorial Service.
Local buildings and institutions will go dark at 6 p.m. Some buildings will then display candles and ring bells in observation.
The Navy Pier Ferris Wheel and the Wrigley Field Marquee will share the message #brightertogether after going dark.
Several prominent buildings in downtown Chicago will participate in the service: by turning their lights off at 6 p.m., and then turning on amber lights at 6:10 p.m.
- City Hall will turn off lights and then relight with amber lighting.
- Wrigley Field - will turn off the marquee and exterior signage and then relight with #brightertogether message
- Solider Field - will light up the colonnade amber and displaying candle images.
- Navy Pier - will turn off the Ferris wheel and then light up an amber color with #brightertogether message.
- Blue Cross Blue Shield Buildingwill create the shape of a candle on the building exterior.
- The Building Owners and Managers Association of Chicago (BOMA) including the Merchandise Mart, Willis Tower, One Prudential Plaza, and dozens of others, will go dark before lighting amber like a candle flame.
Chicago Public Library Branches that are open at 6pm will encourage staff to step outside and light candles. Churches and places of worship across the city will ring their bells in observation.
