City Begins Testing Buckingham Fountain Ahead Of Official 'Switch On Summer' On May 22

CHICAGO (CBS) -- City crews have begun testing Buckingham Fountain's systems, to make sure water is ready to flow through the Grant Park icon when it's turned on later this month.

Officials said it takes 10 days to get the electric pumps working again and filling the bowels of the 94-year-old fountain.

Buckingham Fountain hasn't been active since 2019.

You cold be the one to officially flip the switch on May 22 if you enter the ComEd "Switch On Summer" contest by Sunday.
