Truck Slams Into Bastille Day Crowd, Many Revelers Killed
(CBS) -- A truck mowed down a crowed of Bastille Day revelers, killing dozens of people and injuring many more in Nice, France on Thursday.
The mayor of the capital of the French Riviera said there were multiple fatalities in the crowd watching fireworks. Video footage shows the truck driving through the crowed, indiscriminately running over people.
In the aftermath, graphic video posted on You Tube showed dozens of mangled bodies for several meters along the roadway.
Officials said the truck was loaded with weapons and grenades. French officials said the driver had been killed and a truck with a smashed cab was seen parked on the street.
News outlets in France initially reported up to 73 people were dead and at least 100 injured.

According to Nice Matin, a truck drove on the crowd after the fireworks, shortly after 10 p.m., along the Promenade Des Anglais.
According to reporters on the scene, the truck was riddled with bullets.
"People are running; it's panic," said one Nice-Matin reporter on the scene.
