Thirty People Displaced, Firefighter Injured In North Side Apartment Blaze
(CBS) -- Fire investigators are still looking into the cause of an extra alarm Monday evening that destroyed an apartment building in Lakeview and damaged several others, displacing dozens of people and injuring one firefighter.
The fire gutted one apartment building in the 3300 block of North Marshfield and spread to seven other buildings. A total of 12 apartments were destroyed.
The fire put out a plume of thick, black, smoke that could be seen for miles.
Officials said 30 people were displaced. The Red Cross was on the scene.
Fire department says there were working smoke detectors inside the building.
One firefighter was burned on the arm but was taken in good condition to the hospital, the fire department said.
Authorities closed some streets in the Roscoe Village and Lakeview area as fire crews struck out the fire.
