Biggs: Would Be 'Surprising' If Urlacher Played Sunday

(WSCR) Brian Urlacher's hamstring injury, suffered in the Bears' overtime loss to the Seahawks on Sunday, could keep the aging middle linebacker from playing this Sunday against the Vikings.

The typical rehab time for a hamstring strain is roughly two weeks, and could be longer for the 34-year-old Urlacher, who has spent the season recovering from a knee injury.

"What I'll say is I wouldn't rule him out just based on what he's been able to do during his career, but considering how we've seen hamstring injuries sideline players for two, three weeks, sometimes even longer, it maybe would be a little surprising if he was out there against the Vikings," Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune and National Football Post told The Mully and Hanley Show. "This isn't a younger Brian Urlacher that may have been able to come back sooner. It's certainly a Brian Urlacher that they want to preserve for the remainder of the season."

With four games remaining, the Bears will need Urlacher in top shape to overtake the Packers in the NFC North. Still, there's no sense in rushing him back if he's not ready.

"I know they're running out of games here, but you don't want to run him out there and have him create a situation where the injury is made worse," Biggs said. "That's certainly something that you can have happen with injuries like hamstrings."
