Bears Notes: 'We've Done Our Best,' Trestman Says

By Dan Durkin-

(CBS) The Bears' 2014 season officially ends this Sunday afternoon in Minneapolis, but what else comes to an end remains to be seen.

Chicago coach Marc Trestman addressed the media for the final time off the practice field this season and reflected momentarily on the disappointing season as well as his uncertain future. During the conversation, Trestman insisted everyone involved has done their best.

"When you're 5-10, things are going to swirl, there's going to be a lot of noise out there," Trestman said. "I've tended to focus on my purpose, which is to do the best I can to get our team ready to play. At this point, we're 5-10, it hasn't been good enough this time around, no doubt about it.

"But I think everybody, coaches included, we've done our best. We've done our best all week, we'll continue to play through it and fight through it for three hours on Sunday and stay focused on the things we obviously can control, and that's this football game."

The loser of Sunday's game will finish in last place in the division. If the Bears lose, they will draft seventh in next spring's NFL Draft. If they win, they will draft somewhere between eighth and 11th.

Sifting through the ashes and rubble of the team's disappointing season, Trestman still sees some positives, crediting his team's focus and veteran leadership.

"This is a group that has come to work every day focused on trying to be the best they can be and certainly, we haven't," Trestman said. "We haven't been the best we can be this year. We're a 5-10 team going into the last game.

"Veterans have done a very good job. The guys who have been around, been playing, have done a good job of leading the way in terms of how to meet, how to do the types of things we do under the adversity that we've been under, particularly the last month, but certainly throughout the season. So, there's a lot of positives out of it. Certainly, I've registered the disappointment that we all have for where we are. But we have one more game to play, and we're going to try and finish strong."
