Bears Cut Ties With TEs Davis, Spaeth
(CBS) Armed with a new tight end in Martellus Bennett, the Bears have cut Kellen Davis and Matt Spaeth.
The Bears signed Bennett to a four-year contract as free agency officially kicked off on Tuesday.
Davis, a fifth-round draft pick from Michigan State in 2008, was due a $2.4 million base salary in 2013. He would have counted $3.85 million against the cap if he remained with the team. Instead, his cap hit is $1.35 million after being released.
The team also released tight end Matt Spaeth. By getting rid of Spaeth, the Bears will save a reported $1.6 million in cap space.
