Bears Notes: Conte, de la Puente Listed As Probable

(CBS) The Bears wrapped up their last practice before Sunday's season opener against the Buffalo Bills. Here are some news and notes from Halas Hall.

Injury updates

Bears safety Chris Conte and center/guard Brian de la Puente were both full participants in Friday's practice and are listed as probable for Sunday's season opener against the Bills at Soldier Field.

Conte was cleared Thursday to play after suffering a concussion on Aug. 22. He's fully expected to be part of a three-man rotation at the two safety spots, as coach Marc Trestman didn't announce his starters on the last line of defense yet. de la Puente will back up Chicago's starting interior offensive linemen after recovering from a sprained left MCL.

In other news, fullback Tony Fiammetta (hamstring) was a limited participant in practice and is questionable for Sunday. Third-string quarterback David Fales (right shoulder) has been ruled out.

Game captains

Rather than naming captains for the season, head coach Marc Trestman announced that he will get input from the staff and name game captains.

"We're going to have game captains this year," Trestman said. "We're not going to elect, we're going to do it game-by-game. I'll announce it to the team in the morning (Saturday) who the first game captains are going be. We've got a lot of guys deserving who are not only leaders, but they're influential leaders in our locker room that go beyond five guys. I want to have the opportunity to recognize other guys on this team for game captains."

Rotating safeties

Trestman didn't name starting safeties for the game, mentioning the staff will discuss the topic and determine who the starters will be this afternoon. He did emphasize the Bears will use a three-man rotation at the position -- Ryan Mundy, Danny McCray and Chris Conte.
