Attorney Joel Brodsky, Who Represented Drew Peterson, Suspended Indefinitely From Practicing Law In Illinois
CHICAGO (CBS/AP) -- Attorney Joel A. Brodsky, who is best known for representing convicted wife killer and former Bolingbrook police officer Drew Peterson, has been suspended from practicing law in Illinois effective immediately, due to his volatile tactics in a lawsuit, according to the Illinois Supreme Court.
An order from the court states, "Respondent is suspended from the practice of law effective immediately and until further order of the Court."
The high court acted Wednesday in the wake of a filing by the Illinois Attorney Registration and Disciplinary Commission contending Joel Brodsky "engaged in conduct that threatens irreparable injury to the public and to the orderly administration of justice." The agency said Brodsky's suspension should occur even through the investigation into his actions is ongoing.
A woman answering telephone calls to Brodsky's office Wednesday said he wasn't taking messages.
Brodsky's suspension comes less than a week after an administrative panel of the U.S. District Court in Chicago cut his yearlong suspension from practicing there in half.
Peterson, a former Chicago-area police officer, was convicted in the 2004 drowning death of his third wife.

Brodsky also represented Chicago Police Officer Robert Rialmo in a wrongful death lawsuit in 2018.
Rialmo was sued in a wrongful death civil lawsuit after fatally shooting of 19-year-old Quintonio LeGrier and neighbor Bettie Jones while responding to a disturbance in 2015.
