Arkush: Dent Probably Last '85 Bear To Make Hall Of Fame
CHICAGO (WSCR) – Richard Dent will probably be the last member of the legendary 1985 Chicago Bears team to be inducted into the Hall of Fame, Pro Football Weekly's Hub Arkush said Friday on the McNeil and Spiegel Show.
His remarks came as Dent prepared to be enshrined this weekend in Canton, Ohio.
"I think it's well-deserved," said Arkush, a regular commentator on The Score. "I'm not in agreement with some that this needed to happen faster. Richard was a Hall of Famer. He wasn't a first ballot guy. He had to wait his turn but he clearly belongs."
When asked if Dent is likely the last of the Chicago Bear Super Bowl champions to receive the Hall of Fame honor, Arkush said that's probably the case.
But there may be two more possibilities, he added.
One is center Jay Hilgenberg, who could get in through the Veterans Committee route. The other is Jimbo Covert, offensive tackle for the 1985 Bears.
"The only other guy you could make a case for is Jimbo, and Covert's gonna struggle because of the back injuries that shortened his career," Arkush said.
Dent joins Pro Football Hall of Famers Walter Payton, Dan Hampton and Mike Singletary from the Chicago Bears team that won the 1986 Super Bowl.
