Angelo: McCown Could Be Around For 2012 Season

(CBS) When Bears' quarterback Jay Cutler went down after the team's fifth-straight win, Caleb Hanie became the starter, and Josh McCown was signed "just in case."

After four straight losses, however, McCown took over for Hanie, and now it appears he may return for the 2012 season in a backup roll.

In his first start since 2007 on Sunday against Green Bay, McCown was 19-of-28 for 242 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions.

"I thought he performed well," general manager Jerry Angelo said of McCown on ChicagoBears.com. "He made some plays with his arm and made some running the ball. He handled the adversity of the game well. We were backed up a number of times, and he was able to lead us out of bad field position. He also made some timely runs when things weren't open downfield. For the most part, I thought his poise and decision-making were pretty good.

"We've got one more game, and I'm interested to see how he performs. One thing you don't do when players have good games or poor games, you don't run with things. It's what he does over time. In Josh's case, he came in here late. He did a real nice job. He did have a familiarity with the offense, so it wasn't like he was brand new. He was new to us, but not new to the offense, and he showed that. We'll have time to make that decision, and hopefully we're going to see another good performance Sunday."
