1 Dead, 6 Injured In Limo Crash On Jane Addams Tollway

CHICAGO (CBS) -- One person was killed and six people were injured Friday morning, when a limousine crashed and rolled onto its roof on the Jane Addams Memorial Tollway near Elgin.

Illinois State Police said the limo was heading from Wisconsin to O'Hare International Airport when it crashed around 7:30 a.m. in the eastbound lanes near Dundee Avenue.

Police said the 20-year-old limo driver was blinded by the sun, and crashed just west of Dundee Avenue.

The limo ended up on its roof, and two people were trapped inside when emergency crews arrived. Five others were able to get out on their own.

One of the victims later was pronounced dead at Advocate Sherman Hospital in Elgin. Two others were listed in serious condition Friday afternoon. Two others were treated and released at Sherman, and two others were transferred to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge.

Bill, a man who was driving behind the limo at the time,

"The car was on fire, and at least … I'd say 10 people. I was about the third one there, I guess, trying to kick out the windows on the limo as it was upside down. I pulled out two. The other guys got the back windows, pulled out a couple, two, three, whatever," he said.

Officials said the person who died was sitting in the back of the limousine. The passengers were all from the Madison, Wisconsin, area. The driver is from Janesville, Wisconsin.
