53-Year-Old Tony Phillips To Try Out For Independent Baseball Team

(CBS) If the saying, 'You're only as old as you feel' is true, then former Major Leaguer Tony Phillips must feel pretty good.

Phillips, who spent 18 years in Major League Baseball, retiring in 1999, is staging a comeback with the independent York Revolution, according to a report.

Though he'll turn 54 next month, Phillips actually spent the last two seasons in the Independent League, hitting .231 in 16 games for the Edinberg Roadrunners in 2012 and .269 in 24 games for the Yuma Scorpions in 2011.

For his career, Phillips hit .266 with 2,023 hits and 160 steals.
