22nd Ward To Take Part In Participatory Budgeting For First Time

CHICAGO (CBS) -- What would you do for your community with a million dollars? Some residents from throughout Chicago are getting a chance to answer that question, for real.

WBBM Political Editor Craig Dellimore has an example.

Alderman Rick Munoz's office is holding meetings and asking residents for their proposals for spending the $1 million he has been allotted for the project.

"We are going to create committees, like a streets committee, a parks committee, an arts committee, who are going to come up with projects and proposals that will later on next year will be voted on by residents of the 22nd Ward," said Munoz.

Some other wards have tried participatory budgeting before with some success. This is the first year for the 22nd Ward and Munoz says people seem excited to be taking part.
