2 Murders Near Bellwood Middle School

BELLWOOD (CBS) - Police are looking for suspects after two homicides near a middle school in west suburban Bellwood.

The slayings happened just a few days apart.

In the latest incident, multiple shots were fired at 3 p.m. Monday in the 400 block of 22nd Avenue, killing one man and injuring another.

Pleas Anthony Moody, 23, of Maywood died from gunshot wounds received in the shooting. Jerri Thomas, 24, also of Maywood, was injured. Both men were taken to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood. The Cook County Medical Examiner's office confirmed that there was a fatal shooting in Bellwood on Monday, but had no additional details.

No arrests have been made in connection with the shooting.

Police are not saying if the shooting is related to another shooting on Saturday when a 25-year-old man was killed.

Paris Spencer of Bellwood was found in an alley on the 400 block of 25th Avenue where he had been shot several times.

The shooting that killed Spencer happened less than a block from Roosevelt Middle School at 2500 Oak St. in Bellwood. The latest shooting that killed Moody happened only about three blocks away from the school.

Spencer was pronounced dead at 8:03 p.m. Saturday at Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, the medical examiner's office said.

Police encourage anyone with information about the two shootings to call the anonymous tip line at (708) 544-5961.
