$17M Awaits Previous Owners Of Foreclosed Properties

The $17 million dollars is just sitting there are collecting interest. But Brown says she'd like to hand it all out to rightful owners.

Brown says the owner of one commercial property in Chicago is owed $460,000, though the average amount owed people who had equity in foreclosed property is closer $2,000.

She says, so far this year, her office has only been able to disperse $120,000, meaning $17 million is ready to go to the rightful owners.

If you lost a home or business to foreclosure and might still have equity in it, check services.cookcountyclerkofcourt.org/foreclosure/ or call 312-603-5035. She says her office will let you know if you have money coming.

Brown says you'll have to prove you are the one who is owed the money, but then a judge will approve the transaction and order the clerk to cut the check.
