Va. Chesapeake Bay Plan Being Studied

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - Chesapeake Bay advocates are studying Virginia's 130-page plan to clean up the estuary.

Secretary of Natural Resources Douglas W. Domenech submitted the detailed report on Monday to the Environmental Protection Agency.

He called it a "great step forward" to restore the Chesapeake Bay.

Environmental activists have been paging through the filing to see if it improves on a draft plan that had been roundly criticized as inadequate.

The federal government is attempting to put the bay on a "pollution diet" to limit pollutants and nutrients from farm and urban settings.
