Md. Teen Convicted In Metro Shooting Gets 25 Years

ROCKVILLE, Md. (AP) -- A Montgomery County teenager has been sentenced to 25 years in prison for shooting and wounding two people outside at a Metro station last year.

Kevin Nguyen was sentenced in Montgomery County Circuit Court on Wednesday in connection with the May 2012 shooting at the Rockville Metro station.

The 17-year-old was sentenced for attempted second-degree murder and using a handgun while committing a crime of violence.

State's Attorney John McCarthy says the sentence sends a message that gun violence won't be tolerated.

One of Nguyen's attorneys, Paul Kemp, said the sentence was longer than he had hoped for. But he said he was pleased the judge had agreed to recommend a facility for juvenile offenders.
