All clear given after bomb threat prompts evacuation of Georgia Power plant, Highway 16 shutdown

Authorities have issued an all clear after a possible bomb threat led to the evacuation of a Georgia Power plant in Coweta County and the shutdown of a nearby highway.

The Coweta County Emergency Agency said that its 911 received a call around 1:41 p.m. on Monday from the security team at Plant Yates in Newnan over a bomb threat written on the wall of a portable toilet. The natural gas plant is located on Dyer Road.

Authorities say hundreds of staff members and workers were evacuated while the threat was under investigation.

"Sheriff's Office personnel, along with Coweta County Fire and Rescue are on site investigating this threat. State and Federal Agencies have also been contacted and will be assisting in this matter," the Coweta County Sheriff's Office said in a release.

After a search, public safety officials say they found no devices, clearing the facility.

The Coweta County Emergency Agency said that Highway 16, which runs near the plant, was shut down temporarily as the investigation unfolded.
