SACRAMENTO – A suspect in a double homicide that happened Wednesday in the Arden-Arcade area died in the hospital after shooting himself in front of law enforcement near the Arden Fair Mall, authorities said Thursday.

Sgt Amar Gandhi with the Sacramento County Sheriff's Office told media members late Thursday afternoon that homicide detectives identified Ricky Hunter, 32, as the suspect in the double shooting.

An arrest warrant was obtained and Hunter was tracked to the AT&T store near the mall. With Hunter potentially being armed, detectives waited for him to exit the store before approaching him.

Detectives tried to arrest Hunter once he went to his car. Inside the car was a shotgun that Hunter used to shoot himself in the chest, Gandhi said.

Hunter was transported to an area hospital where he later died.

Sacramento police officers assisted with the situation near the mall Thursday. Police officers responded to the area for a report of a possibly armed suicidal person along Expo Parkway. The department later determined that the individual was possibly connected to the Howe Avenue incident.

One woman was identified to CBS13 by family as 35-year-old Laverda Pearl Robinson, also known as "Vee." The other woman was identified as 32-year-old Jessica Williams.

The investigation is ongoing and detectives ask that anyone with information about the incident contact the Sacramento County Sheriff's Office at (916) 874-5115.
