It's been a mite chilly in Park City, Utah, as the Sundance Film Festival unfolds. Temperatures rarely have been above the freezing mark and when they DO make it to 36 degrees or so, it's not for very long. So, like actor Stephen Dorff, shown here as he went for a stroll along Main Street, celebrities appear to be going for warmth, while making a secondary stab at style.
HATS
Your mother was right. Wear a hat. Taking that advice, from left to right, starting at the top, are Gina Gershon, Kelly Osbourne in fuzzy white, Judy Dixon, and Russell Hornsby; middle row, Terrence Howard, rocker Tommy Lee in a fedora, and musician Rufus Wainwright in your grandpa's hat; bottom row, Anthony Mackie, Christine Elise in a cozy halo, Rachel Dratch in a pink lampshade, and comedian Bobcat Goldthwaite.
GLOVES AND MITTENS
Gotta keep those mitts warm for all the schmoozing and handshakes. Here, we have (top row, from left) actor Nathan Cooker, actor Michael Pitt, actress and writer Eve Ensler, and actress Nicholle Tom. In the bottom row, from left, it's actress Shannen Doherty, actor Wilmer Valderrama, actor John Patrick Amedori and actress Marlee Matlin.
SCARVES
It takes a woman with experience and style to show us how to wear a scarf; check out actress Ruby Dee in the orange neckpiece, center top. Stripes are sported by Gretchen Mol (top left) and togetherness is demonstrated by "Supersize Me!" filmmaker Morgan Spurlock and wife Alex Jamieson (bottom left). Actor Hill Harper is sophisticated in grey, but actress Jenny Wade, far right, is in danger of getting a belly cold.
BOOTS
Here's a random sample of Sundance footwear, captured Jan. 23, 2006, by a photographer for the Associated Press, who doesn't identify the people to whom these feet are attached, except to note that they are publicists, actors, filmmakers and film fans.
COATS
That's singer/songwriter Judy Collins at upper left, in a pink ski jacket. Below her is actress Lizzy Caplan, looking appropriately jaded in a coat with fur collar. Over on the right, at top, Tracie Dinwiddie shows true color and, at bottom, Sophia Myles opts for starlet white. In the middle of it all is actress Gina Gershon, showing more than a little attitude.
SWEATERS
It's the basic foundation of a winter wardrobe, and everyone does it differently. A few examples are, top row, from left, Ally Sheedy, Kelli Garner, Sally Kirkland and Daryl Hannah (a blonde in basic black); bottom row, from left, director Linda Hawkins Costigan ("The World According To Sesame Street"), Jennifer Aniston, actress Emily Rios and director Jason Matzner ("Dreamland").
DRESSES
You won't see many of these at Sundance, mostly because pants are warmer. But here are a few frocks. At far left is Bai Ling, an actress/model who clearly knows how to engineer some attention for herself. Actress J. Karen Thomas, second from left, takes a different approach. Amber Tamblyn appears demure in black, and Manuela Testolini is stylin' in black tights.
JEWELRY
Heavy clothes call for chunkier jewelry, or so it seems. Manuela Testolini, far left, goes for big hoop earrings, and others clearly are making statements with pendants and chains. They are actress Toni Collette (second from left, top); actress Katherine Bell (second from left, bottom), actress Karen Chilton (third from left), and musician Anna Nalick.
LEA
Just threw her in here because she looks so colorful and so much like someone you might run into outside the local supermarket. If you needed directions to the next screening, wouldn't you feel comfortable asking Lea Thompson?
