Devan Tatlow already beat leukemia when he was 2 years old. Now, just two years later, the dreaded disease is back. And the quick-to-smile 4-year-old from Washington D.C, is fighting to beat it again.
According to Devan Tatlow's parents, celebrities like Kim Kardashian and Paris Hilton have been tweeting to help him find a life-saving bone marrow transplant.
But Devan's ancestry is mixed. His father's family is from Europe. His mother's family is from India. Out of 14 million possible bone marrow donors, not a single match was found.
So Devan Tatlow, shown here with his father, turned to a much smaller but more promising donation bank - cord blood.
Even though there are less than 200,000 donations in the nation's cord blood banks, a good match was found for Devan Tatlow. That's because it's much easier to match cord blood than bone marrow.
Now Devan Tatlow has a fighting chance and a good one at that. But doctors say he's not out of the woods yet.
Devan and his family are now fighting to save others. They are encouraging people to sign up for the bone marrow donation registry and to donate their cord blood.
