Waking Up Needn't Be Hard To Do

It that time of year again -- the end of Daylight Saving Time!

For most people, setting clocks back an hour overnight Saturday-into-Sunday means an extra hour of sleep. But for parents with young children, and other people who aren't conditioned for the change, this time of year could actually mean less sleep overall.

So, on The Early Show's Saturday Edition, CNET-TV Senior Editor Natali Del Conte spotlighted devices designed to help get us out of bed on time. Most were hi-tech, but not all!

How are people waking up these days?

With a standard alarm clock or alarm clock radio: Most people know how to set back their old bedside alarm clock, but the trick is remembering to. Use a Post-It note!

With a vibrating alarm clock you put under your mattress!

With their cell phones: Pretty much all phones have clocks that are managed by the carrier¹s network. You shouldn't have to update the time in your cell phone; the network will do it for you. This means, if you set your alarm to be at work at 8 the next day, you should be able to rely on your phone to wake you up at 6. Make sure you keep the ringer on, though!

With a wakeup reminder service: There are Web sites you can use to schedule a wakeup call. Most of them are free. For instance, you can find them at WakerUpper.com or Snoozester.com. You just give the Web site your phone number and the time you want the wakeup call. Keep these sites in mind for April Fools Day! They make a great early morning prank if you put in someone else's number!

With a "Flying Alarm Clock"!

With an iPod alarm clock radio:. If you use an iPod dock to wake you up, you have to set the time back manually, as you would any regular alarm clock. Set the time back on the clock and the iPod, although it won¹t make a difference if you forget to set the iPod back.
